"Rusty"

DOG in HARRISONBURG AREA needing a HOME: Note from foster mother: Update as of 1/27: "Rusty is still looking for a home. He has settled in nicely at our house and has calmed down a good bit. Many of the "nervous" behaviors we witnessed the first few weeks have disappeared. He truly needs a home where members of the household can be patient to get him through those first few high anxiety weeks and then he will settle right in. He often sits at my feet in the evening while I am working in my home office. He also likes to sit up on the sofa with my 10 year old son. Rusty loves to play with our dogs. Despite his back left leg issues, he runs and plays with the best of them." "Rusty" was found wondering loose on 11/8 in northern Rockingham county and no one has claimed him. He is 6 to 8 months old and likely some type of sight hound (such as a whippet or greyhound) mix. He had already been neutered. We have had him checked out by a vet and Rusty is now updated on all his shots. He is great with our 10 year old son and gets along well with other dogs and cats. Rusty is a dog with special needs. His back left leg shows some signs of muscle atrophy. The vet says most likely this is due to an old, possibly untreated injury. Currently, there is nothing to be done about it. He gets around extremely well but will need to stay slim so not to put too much pressure on his good leg as he is older. We are working on house training and that is coming along really well. Finally, he is a true companion animal and needs someone who is okay with being followed around the house. I (Robin) can be reached at ander2rd@gmail.com.
